When the starting gun sounded for the 'Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote' on 18 March 2022, shortly after sunrise, Christoph Mattner, the debutant among the professional triathletes, had already learned his first lesson.

Things are different with the 'big boys' than with the amateurs. If you are not wide awake when choosing your starting position, you lose. Two months later, Mattner was again on the starting line in Lanzarote, this time at the toughest Ironman long distance in the world, and delivered.
